Mary Gibbs, our amazing auditorWe celebrated the Leap Year at James Bay New Horizons by having our 33rd Annual General Meeting!

Attendance was excellent and everyone present enjoyed the news and events of the morning, not to mention the cake afterwards.  Thanks to everyone who came out to support the centre and learn a bit about how the year 2007 went for us, and also for taking an interest in your new board.

For about 10 cents a day, a membership at James Bay New Horizons could lead to a year of happiness.  You may even want to consider a LIFE Membership. Membership fees help offset the cost of special events and administration costs (Stamps, advertising, photocopying, and enables us to offer programs and activities for a nominal fee.  Please help us support the seniors in our community by purchasing a membership.

Thousands of Seniors fail to apply for income supplement.  According to Stats Canada, more than 200,000 elderly poor have been missing out on about $300 million a year in supplemental old age security benefits, simply because they have not applied for them.  Those missing out appear to be among those who may be the most dependent on the Guaranteed Income Supplement for low-income elderly.  Most seniors who qualify for benefits under the Federal Guaranteed income Supplement for low-income elderly receive them, but a significant portion don't.
For various reasons, many eligible seniors end up not applying for GIS.
